about me

I’m Ethan, and I started this blog in June of 2025, two weeks after graduating from college with a BA in philosophy & political science. I wanted an outlet to continue researching what I started to see as a debilitating blindspot in our collective consciousness — economic history — and to connect it to everyday life, to the tectonic changes in our immediate surrounds to which we all so eagerly seek to put words. I intend the Markets Project to be both a personal archive, consisting of standalone essays on topics I find worth exploring at any given moment, and a space for more granular and long-running analyses of class and capital. (You can read about the significance behind my choice of markets and project here). Thus, you’ll find a wide range of posts — book reviews, longer research-driven pieces, reactions to current events — on what will hopefully be a cohesive body of topics revolving around American political economy. And, since the city is my vantage point, Philadelphia’s situation within it.

Of course, I want this site to be more than just a personal pastime or a place to vent about politics. I plan to build something big with what I accomplish here, even if what, where and how is unclear to me now. But whether it’s the start of a dissertation, a book, or a career in journalism (I know; not very ambitious about salary expectations), I want this work to live a long life.

Above all, I hope you learn something here!

Best,
